Data protection information on the processing of personal data in relation to the Marinefinland.fi service
This information on data protection includes the information to be provided to data subjects pursuant to Article 13 of the General Data Protection Regulation (2016/679) of the European Parliament and of the Council. This includes information on how we collect, use, disclose and store personal data in the Itämeri.fi service at the Finnish Environment Institute (SYKE).
SYKE has the right to make technical changes to this information without prior notification to data subjects.

Grounds for processing
We process personal data for the performance of a task carried out in the public interest (point (e) of Article 6(1) of the GDPR and paragraph 2 of section 4(1) of the Finnish Data Protection Act (1050/2018)). The data is necessary for implementing the service and contacts. The personal data provided is not used for any purpose other than those mentioned below.
Personal data collected and the purpose of their processing
You are asked to provide your email address and/or other contact details when you give feedback in the Itämeri.fi service. You can also send the feedback anonymously, but if you wish to receive a response to the feedback you have given, you must submit your contact details.
The Marinefinland.fi service does not collect data that allows for identifying individual visitors. However, we do collect general statistical data on the website’s use for the purpose of the service’s development.
The data is collected with the help of cookies, but users can disable or block cookies by changing their browser settings. This may, however, result in the pages not displaying correctly. The compiling of visitor statistics is based on the server’s log data and on Google Analytics reporting, which relies on the cookie of the Google Analytics software and a JavaScript code. In addition, the website collects statistical data with Hotjar software which does not save data that allows for identifying individual visitors.
Sources of personal data
Any personal data submitted in connection to the provision of feedback is given by the person sending the feedback.
Processing of personal data
The data on feedback forms is processed by the people maintaining the Marinefinland.fi service at SYKE. When necessary, the data on feedback forms can be sent to the partner producing the online service for the purposes of responding to the feedback. The partners involved in producing the service include the Geological Survey of Finland (GTK), the Finnish Meteorological Institute, Natural Resources Institute Finland (Luke), Metsähallitus, the Finnish Heritage Agency, the Brahea Centre at the University of Turku, the Coordination Group for Marine Spatial Planning Cooperation and the Government of Åland.
The data is not transferred or disclosed outside the EU or the EEA.
Protection of the processing of personal data
The technical measures necessary to protect the processing of personal data in relation feedback have been carried out. The Finnish Environment Institute has agreed on the processing of personal data in accordance with the GDPR with the partners and subcontractors producing the online service.
Storage of personal data
In addition to the time it takes to process feedback, personal data is stored in the online service’s content production system for a period of two calendar years until February as of the year during was the feedback was submitted, after which the data is archived. The archived data does not include any possible email address, name, phone number or company/organisation data submitted by the sender.
